I’ve shot dozens of engagement sessions here and it’s still one of my favorite hidden gems in the Bay Area. Rarely crowded, which makes it perfect for couples wanting privacy — I’ve had clients pull off surprise proposals here without anyone around. Easy parking, just a short walk in. Only downside is no restrooms on site, so plan ahead. Highly recommend for golden hour!

Arizona Cactus Garden, Stanford (CA) — [April. 01. 2026] Small space, big delight. This little garden never disappoints. As a birder, I time my visits with the arrival of the Hooded Orioles—and that just happens to coincide with peak cactus bloom. Perfect combo. Bright flowers, buzzing life, and birds everywhere in this compact, happy patch. Despite its size, there’s always something going on—orioles flashing gold, hummingbirds zipping through, and constant movement if you just pause and watch. The cactus collection itself is beautiful, especially when in bloom, adding color and texture to every frame. Set within Stanford grounds, you can easily extend the visit with a walk along nearby trails, which makes it feel bigger than it is. A few practical notes: • No restrooms on site • Weekday parking is paid via ParkMobile—watch signage carefully I parked here: 37.438043, -122.171359 Then walk to here: 37.436424, -122.169847 • Easy access but parking can be tricky if you’re not paying attention Simple, vibrant, and full of life—one of those spots that keeps pulling you back.

First time visiting this wonderful garden. None of the plants were labeled. Lots of benches on the outer areas of the paths to sit down.

We go to a lot of botanical and cactus gardens. The best cactus garden was in Arizona. This one, interestingly called the Arizona Garden was probably the best one outside of, well, Arizona. Lots of diverse cacti with some very large specimens and some we've never seen before. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area. Be careful if you bring a curious dog. Disabled parking gets you close but the closest lot might require a permit (maybe not on weekends?).
